According to Record, a photograph that supposedly shows Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” dead inside a coffin began circulating on social media and sparked debate about its authenticity.

The El Mencho coffin photo quickly went viral across digital platforms, where users questioned whether it was a real photograph or content generated with artificial intelligence.

The image shows a man inside a golden coffin, which matches reports about the casket in which he was allegedly buried recently.

However, there has been no official confirmation of the image’s authenticity.

Viral photo of El Mencho in his golden coffin appears on an X account

The image was shared on the social network X from the account identified as @equis727.

That profile describes itself as a space where users can send information or tips privately.

The account was created in June 2025.

It currently has just over 2,700 followers.

It also follows 74 accounts, many of them related to media outlets or topics connected to politics and organized crime.

In the image, a man can be seen dressed in a gray suit and white shirt.

The individual is wearing a chain with a large Saint Jude Thaddeus medal.

Part of a gold-colored coffin frame can also be seen in the scene.

The post generated numerous reactions on social media.

Users began sharing the image while debating whether it was authentic.

No official confirmation of the image

The Mexican weekly magazine Proceso reported that the authenticity of the image has not been confirmed.

According to information requested from Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, there was no presence of federal forces at the funeral.

Because of that absence, there are no official elements confirming whether the photograph actually corresponds to the body of Oseguera Cervantes.

So far, no verified images of the alleged criminal leader’s body have been released.

The images shown publicly only include the closed coffin.

This situation has fueled doubts about the authenticity of the photograph circulating online.

Artificial intelligence suggests the image may be fake

When consulting Grok, the artificial intelligence tool integrated into X, the system responded that the El Mencho coffin photo would likely not be real.

According to Grok, the image may have been manipulated or generated using artificial intelligence.

“No, this photo is not real. It is manipulated or generated by AI,” the system responded.
The tool added that no verified images of the open coffin exist.

It also noted that available news reports only show the coffin closed.

Grok indicated that the circulating image does not match verified material.

The analysis also mentioned that the coffin was closed during the funeral held at the Recinto de la Paz cemetery in Zapopan.

The evaluation cited sources including CNN, BBC, AP, and El País.

On the other hand, an analysis performed by ChatGPT also concluded that the authenticity of the image cannot be confirmed.

The system noted that the scene shows a man inside a coffin wearing a gray suit and white shirt.

The individual appears with his eyes closed, as if at a wake or funeral preparation.

He is also wearing a chain with a religious medallion.

According to the analysis, the lighting and facial details appear uniform, which could indicate either a real photograph taken in a funeral setting or an image generated or digitally edited.

The alleged image of Oseguera Cervantes’ coffin also includes a watermark with the text “X: @equis727.”

The watermark appears twice, suggesting it originates from a post shared on that social network.

The analysis also notes that similar images are often edited or generated with artificial intelligence to spread rumors about the supposed death of well-known figures.

ChatGPT concluded that with that image alone it is not possible to verify its authenticity or confirm whether the person in the coffin is actually Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes.
